One of the things guests consistently notice at Vista Bendita is how naturally the property encourages a healthier rhythm — early mornings on the terrace with coffee and birds, long beach days, good sleep, and an absence of the noise that follows you everywhere at home.
The region around Ojochal and Uvita takes that further. Within 30 minutes of Vista Bendita you have yoga studios in the jungle, open-air gyms, pickleball and tennis, luxury wellness retreat centers, and some of the most naturally therapeutic environments on earth — waterfalls, ocean, mountains, and rainforest within a single day.
This is the guide for guests who want to move, restore, and return home feeling genuinely different.
Yoga Studios & Classes
⭐ Serenidad Yoga & Wellness Center — In Ojochal
📍 Google Maps ~5 min · Ojochal · TripAdvisor
The closest yoga studio to Vista Bendita — and one of the most beloved in the region. An elevated open-air platform set in the jungle canopy, offering views through the trees toward the coast. Owner Catherine is consistently described as warm, funny, and attentive — classes here are a highlight for guests who find it.
Serenidad offers a variety of yoga and movement classes for all levels. Uniquely, it’s the only studio in the area offering Yin yoga alongside Vinyasa — a welcome option for guests who want a restorative practice rather than a dynamic one. Evening candlelit classes under the stars and fireflies are available by arrangement.
Easily accessible by standard vehicle — not remote. The kind of place you can slot into a morning before heading to the beach.
Best for: All levels, restorative Yin practice, guests who want yoga close to home, candlelit evening sessions.
Bienestar Uvita Yoga Shala
📍 Google Maps ~25 min · Uvita · Website
One of the most accredited yoga centers in Costa Rica, offering daily drop-in classes alongside formal yoga teacher training programs. A proper yoga school with a beautiful open-air shala, experienced teachers, and a program structured enough for serious practitioners but welcoming to drop-ins. Good range of class styles and times.
Best for: Daily practice, serious practitioners, guests interested in teacher training programs.
Bodhi Shambala Yoga Center — Bahía Ballena
📍 Google Maps ~25 min · Uvita · Website
A yoga studio within the larger Bodhi Lodge, situated within the community of Bahía Ballena. Walking distance to both the services of Bahía Ballena and Uvita as well as Marino Ballena National Park. The studio offers Vinyasa flow classes — private, group, and weekly — with a specialty in surf and yoga combinations.
The sounds of rain, birds, animals, the creek, and wind create the audio backdrop — uniquely small-town Costa Rica. Good option for surfers who want to complement time in the water with a yoga practice.
Best for: Vinyasa, surf and yoga combinations, guests staying near Uvita.
Yoga Maya Uvita
📍 Google Maps ~25 min · Uvita · Website
A boutique retreat center and yoga studio with an open-air studio described as utterly breathtaking — handmade blocks, meticulous attention to detail, and teachers who are competent, fun, and friendly. Daily classes available alongside formal teacher training programs. Well regarded for the quality of individual attention and the beauty of the setting.
Best for: Drop-in classes, boutique retreat experience, teacher training.
Danyasa Yoga — Dominical
📍 Google Maps ~40 min · Dominical · Website
One of the most established yoga studios on the Southern Pacific coast — operating in Dominical for over a decade. Daily drop-in classes, teacher training programs, and occasional retreat weeks. The studio has a loyal following and a genuine community feel. Worth the drive for guests who want a well-established program.
Best for: Experienced practitioners, teacher training, guests who want a community yoga atmosphere.
Wellness Retreat Centers
These are destination retreat centers rather than drop-in studios — best for guests who want to build their whole stay around wellness, or add a day retreat experience.
⭐ Selva Armonia — Private Retreat & Event Center
📍 Google Maps ~25 min · Uvita · Website
Tucked in the jungle mountains of Uvita — a retreat center intentionally crafted for healing, celebration, and growth. Ocean-view yoga shalas, plant-based cuisine, curated nature experiences, and luxury accommodations. Selva Armonia operates as a full venue buyout for facilitators and retreat leaders — the entire property is taken over by one group at a time, creating an intimate and distraction-free environment.
Not a drop-in option — works best for guests who join a scheduled retreat week or for groups organizing a private wellness event. Check their calendar for upcoming retreats that overlap with your visit.
Best for: Immersive retreat weeks, group wellness events, guests who want the full jungle luxury wellness experience.
Flō Retreat Center
📍 Google Maps ~25 min · Uvita · Website
An eco-lux retreat center on C. la Faralla in Uvita offering wellness and adventure retreats — yoga, artist workshops, rainforest hikes, and local cultural experiences alongside surfing and whale watching. A more adventure-integrated wellness experience than Selva Armonia — good for guests who want movement and outdoor activities alongside their wellness practice.
Best for: Wellness combined with adventure, yoga and surf retreats, guests who want active wellness rather than pure restoration.
Metamorfinca — Mountain Wellness Farm
📍 Google Maps ~55–60 min · San Luis (35 min north of Uvita) · Website
A 22-acre permaculture farm and retreat center at 2,900 feet above sea level in San Luis, overlooking a stunning waterfall. Morning meditation and breathwork, Pilates and Vinyasa yoga before brunch, evening Yin and restorative sessions. Three organic chef-prepared meals daily from ingredients sourced on the land. Infrared sauna, hot tub, pool, and jungle paths throughout the farm. Chic sustainable lodging.
Just outside our 30-minute radius but worth including — the elevation means comfortable temperatures year-round and the setting is completely different from the coastal retreats. A proper full-immersion wellness experience.
Best for: Guests wanting a multi-day mountain wellness stay, Pilates and Yin practitioners, infrared sauna and cold therapy.
Fitness & Gyms
Rincon Center Gym — Uvita
📍 Google Maps ~25 min · Uvita · Entry: ~$2 USD / day (1,000 colones)
A standard open-air gym with weights, weight machines, and stationary bikes for spinning. Bathrooms and showers on site. Classes available though not on a fixed online schedule — best to stop by and check.
Directions: Drive to the highway and turn left heading south. Pass the gas station and at the intersection with BCR bank on the left, turn right. Drive about a block — the soccer field and gym are on the right.
At $2 USD per day this is the most accessible gym option in the area — no membership, no fuss. Good for guests who want to maintain a basic training routine without a full facility.
Best for: Weight training, spinning, basic fitness maintenance. Best value in the area.
Uvita Gym — Martial Arts & Conditioning
📍 Google Maps ~25 min · Uvita
A martial arts-style workout gym with punching bags, a padded floor, weights, and classes. A different atmosphere from the Rincon Center — better for guests who want a conditioning-focused workout, boxing, or martial arts training. Ask locally for current class schedule and hours as these change seasonally.
Best for: Conditioning, boxing, martial arts training, guests who want something more dynamic than a standard gym.
Racquet Sports
⭐ Ojochal Racquet Club — Pickleball & Tennis
📍 Google Maps ~10 min · Ojochal · Walking distance from Ojochal Gardens
The most local active recreation option near Vista Bendita — pickleball and tennis within 10 minutes of the property. The Ojochal Racquet Club is well established enough that Ojochal Gardens organizes pickleball tournaments here as part of their retreat programming — guests walk to the club directly from the hotel.
Pickleball has exploded in this community — there’s an active local player base, which means drop-in games are often possible if you show up and introduce yourself. Ask at the club about open play times, lessons, and equipment rental. Tennis courts are available for booking as well.
For serious players: the club is the social hub of the Ojochal expat community. Games happen most mornings. If pickleball is your thing, this is the reason to base yourself in Ojochal rather than Uvita.
Best for: Pickleball, tennis, meeting locals, active daily recreation right next to Vista Bendita.
Natural Wellness — Free & Always Available
The most restorative experiences near Vista Bendita don’t cost anything and don’t require booking.
Vista Bendita’s pool and terrace — The pool is solar-heated and the terrace faces the Pacific. An hour in the water followed by a coffee while the morning birds work through the jungle behind you is a genuinely therapeutic start to any day.
Waterfall swimming — Cascada de Ojochal is 5 minutes away. Cold, clean, moving water in a jungle setting. The physiological effects of cold water immersion are well documented — the psychological ones are obvious after five minutes in a waterfall pool.
Early morning beach walks — Playa Ventanas at dawn, before any vendors arrive, is one of the most peaceful places on the Southern Pacific coast. The walk from the parking area to the cave point and back is 30–40 minutes of soft sand with the Pacific on one side and cliff forest on the other.
Birding from the terrace — 68 species confirmed at Vista Bendita. The 5:30–8:30AM window with binoculars and the Merlin app is meditative in a way that is difficult to explain until you’ve done it. Download the app before you arrive.
Sunrise and sunset — The terrace faces west. Sunsets over the Pacific from Vista Bendita are consistent and extraordinary. Sunrises over the jungle mountains behind the property are quieter but worth waking up for at least once.
